The Artist
I’m Nadia, the artist behind arête. Based in Banff since 2017, I create art inspired by nature and the landscapes I'm surrounded by.
My heart has always been torn between the ocean and the mountains - when I’m in one place, I’m dreaming of the other. The mountains bring out my adventurous side where I can spend days in the backcountry hiking and skiing. But the beach is where you’ll find me embracing idleness - collecting shells, surfing and daydreaming. My art is inspired by these landscapes, and the constant pull I feel between them both.
I’ve been making things for as long as I can remember - drawing, painting, and creating with my hands. Creativity has always been a constant in my life, showing up in different ways as landscapes, homes, and seasons change. Currently my focus is on embroidery, film photography and making little illustrations, but this is always evolving and changing.
About arête
An arête is the name for a mountain ridge formed by ice erosion - a glacier's carving that connects the peaks and valleys from the Rockies to the sea.
Arête is simply my collection of art and a place to share it with all of you.
